A teenage youth was found dead only a few days following being falsely accused of stealing the ashes of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement read to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the news, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said items was not taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed stolen ashes attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Effect

She added that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions really mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that one 19-year-old encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The hearing received testimony from educational staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang the family's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they never got that communication.

Official Finding

Senior investigator told the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was released while inquiries proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "There is no proof that the actions or omissions of any organization caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to determine his intent."
